The session aimed to enhance students’ awareness and preparedness in navigating today’s digital environment. As Gen Z is highly active online for learning, communication and entertainment, they face increased exposure to cyber threats. The program emphasized the concept of Cyber Hygiene—a set of safe digital practices that protect personal data, devices and online identity.
Understanding Cyber Hygiene
Cyber hygiene refers to routine digital safety practices that protect users from cyberattacks. Examples include updating passwords, avoiding suspicious links, maintaining data backups and securing devices.
Importance for Gen Z
The Speaker addressed that Gen Z spends 8+ hours online daily, making them primary targets for phishing, scams and identity theft.Personal data acts as digital currency, influencing academic, professional and social outcomes.
Cyber vulnerabilities can lead to reputational damage, data loss and psychological stress.
The resource person presented a case where a student lost access to a college portal due to repeated password reuse across platforms. After implementing 2FA and shifting to password manager–based security practices, the issue was resolved. This example reinforced the message that small digital habits significantly influence cyber safety.
